How a tailor-made trip comes together

What happens between a first enquiry and a confirmed itinerary at Famous Africa — who books what, when payment falls due, and what changes along the way.

Nothing is sold as a fixed departure

Every Famous Africa itinerary is designed individually rather than selected from a catalogue. There is no set departure date to join and no fixed group to travel with, so the routing, the lodges and the length of the trip are decided with the traveller rather than presented to them.

That is why the enquiry form asks where you are thinking of and roughly when, rather than which package you would like. A trip can concentrate on one country or combine several, and the shape of it is the first thing that gets discussed.

Famous Africa books with the suppliers on your behalf

Lodges, camps, flights and ground arrangements are booked with the relevant suppliers by Famous Africa, on the traveller's behalf. That matters for two reasons: the terms that apply to a booking are the supplier's own, and a single point of contact holds the whole itinerary rather than the traveller assembling it from parts.

What is asked for, and what is never asked for

At enquiry stage Famous Africa asks for a name, an email and — only if you want to give them — a phone number, a country of residence and the outline of the trip. No passport, no identity document and no payment details are ever requested through the website.

Documents of that kind belong later in a confirmed booking and are handled directly, not through a web form.

Deposits, balances and changes

Payment terms and conditions are governed by the relevant supplier which will be booked and confirmed on your behalf through Famous Africa.

A 30% deposit of the total amount for all land arrangements. Furthermore, a 100% payment will be required for Air Travel as tickets must be issued simultaneously.

The remaining balance is due 60 days prior to travel. If bookings are made less than 60 days before departure, then full payment (100%) is required at the time of the booking.

The full terms, including the cancellation bands, are set out on the important booking information page.
