South Africa
British, US, Canadian, Australian, German and French citizens can visit South Africa visa-free for 90 days. All travellers file an online declaration.
Kenya
Almost every visitor to Kenya, children included, needs an approved eTA from etakenya.go.ke before travelling. A standard eTA costs US$30.
Tanzania
Most visitors need a Tanzania visa, online at visa.immigration.go.tz or on arrival. It costs US$50; US citizens must buy a US$100 multiple-entry visa.
Botswana
British, US and many other visitors can enter Botswana visa-free for up to 90 days. Nationalities on Botswana's visa list apply online at evisa.gov.bw.
Namibia
Since April 2025 British, US, German, Canadian and many other visitors need a visa for Namibia, as an e-visa or on arrival. Most neighbours remain exempt.
Zambia
Since January 2025, 167 nationalities including British, US, Canadian and Australian citizens can visit Zambia visa-free. Others apply for a visa.
Zimbabwe
British, US, Canadian and Australian visitors need a Zimbabwe visa, on arrival or at evisa.gov.zw. Visitors from South Africa, Botswana and Zambia do not.
Uganda
Most visitors need a Uganda visa from visas.immigration.go.ug, and everyone aged one or over needs a yellow fever certificate. The visa costs US$50.
Rwanda
Every nationality can get a Rwanda visa on arrival. African Union, Commonwealth and Francophonie citizens, including the UK, get 30 days free.
Mozambique
UK, US, Canadian and many European visitors need an Electronic Travel Authorisation from evisa.gov.mz for up to 30 days in Mozambique.
Madagascar
Every nationality can get a Madagascar tourist eVisa online or on arrival. Since 16 February 2026 fees start at €30 for stays of up to 15 days.
Malawi
Since February 2026 British, US, Canadian and many European visitors need a Malawi visa, on arrival or at evisa.gov.mw. Many neighbours are exempt.
